Chassis Dynamics Manager

  • The multidisciplinary chassis dynamics group focuses on chassis dynamic performance development includes high performance vehicles lateral/vertical dynamics, designated hardware based lateral dynamics active control, trailer towing stability in all weather and road conditions found in North America.
  • The group’s main function of testing, calibrating, and developing the passive and active chassis dynamic performance of HMG vehicles aligns with our corporate goal of delivering the best vehicles for the North American customer through regional technical leadership and global collaboration.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead development of chassis dynamics related items for all Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis projects.
    • Chassis dynamics development includes handling focused active chassis control performance development (e-LSD, Rear Wheel Steering, etc.)
    • High performance vehicle chassis dynamic performance development
    • Advanced research activities include objective test/analysis, simulation, and control logic development
  • Lead individual system development and vehicle level performance integration
  • Provide development direction and support engineering activities
  • Plan and manage engineering resources include budget, human resources, test vehicles, etc. to successfully accomplish given engineering tasks and complete development projects
  • Establishment and enhance the North America market optimized performance development guidelines for each individual system and for vehicle level integrated performance.
  • Set up group’s goals & objectives aligned with the corporate direction and facilitate the accomplishment of all objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance for the development of lateral dynamics  (handling / Stability / Controllability / R&H), longitudinal dynamics (traction), and sub system level performance.
  • Manage vehicle test events including proving ground tests, cross-functional seasonal tests (hot/cold), global joint tests, and off-road tests.
  • Manage customer feedback research through JD Power IQS, Consumer Reports, and Customer Clinics to understand areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis North America Regional Head Quarters in pre & post-production activities to enhance market competitiveness and brand value.
  • Manage the creation and presentation of clear & concise project status and technical reports.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in the automotive industry
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in vehicle stability, controllability, and traction performance development
  • 3+ years of experience managing engineers and leading chassis control development projects
  • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, control system development, and chassis performance development
  • Excellent computer skills and experience in-vehicle instrumented measurement and system calibration
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency in planning, executing, and monitoring development projects
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills
  • Flexibility in handling multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
  • Able to work in a culturally diverse team environment and in harsh climate conditions (Winter -40F, Summer +120F, altitude up to 14,000 ft)
  • Travel up to 30%, up to 3 weeks in duration at a time, domestically and internationally to support product development, testing, and promotion
