Sr. EMS Engineer

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a Senior EMS Engineer for the EMS/OBD/VEL (EOV) Team, who would calibrate and verify engine and electrified (xEV) powertrain system functionality by assessing its ability to meet emissions, fuel economy, OBD, and drivability requirements.

What You Will Do:

  • Test and analyze powertrain performance related to performance, emissions (i.e., PM, CO, CO2, NOx, etc.), fuel economy, and diagnostics working in vehicle test cells and real-world environments
  • Support software and calibration updates and technical investigations of proto-vehicles
  • EMS calibration and verification for production intent powertrains
  • Manage a test fleet of prototype vehicles consisting of ICE, (P)HEV, and EV powertrains
  • Calibrate OBD functions for production intent applications ensuring:
    • Compliance with OBD regulations
    • Robustness against component and environmental conditions expected variation
  • Interpret & analyze electrified powertrain control system logic
  • Conduct benchmarking with competitive powertrain systems
  • Assist in the investigation of field claims and propose suitable solutions
  • Create/present technical reports and presentations for management to review
  • Perform basic administrative functions

What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience with engine or electrified powertrain management systems
  • Experience with xEV powertrains
  • Experience with machine learning/neural network development
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (i.e., CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Ability to operate data acquisition systems, modify/manipulate post-process data, and compile and extract information of interest from data files
  • Proficient in MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficient in ETAS Inca, MDA, and MATLAB
  • Travel up to 30% of the time, both domestically and internationally
    • 20% domestically
    • 10% internationally
  • Ability to work in harsh climate environments (i.e., winter: -40F, summer: +120F, and altitude up to 14,000 feet)
  • Valid Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record
