CMF Design Senior Designer

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Main role: As CQM (Color Quality Management) Designer, you will be part of the Next CMF (Color, Material, Finish) Team at Kia Design Center America. You will be responsible for evaluating and improving color harmony/quality of our automotive designs/production vehicles.

  • You will be evaluating and improving color, grain and gloss of automotive parts and securing consistent color harmony and quality. You will be making these assessments and improvements utilizing color masters distributed and approved by relevant departments.

Secondary role: As CMF Designer, you will be working on projects such as production programs, concept cars, assisting re-work of press vehicles, autoshow cars, re-work of prototype cars, and meeting with Kia’s website color visualization Enhancement teams to assist in color input of interior and exterior colors in order to provide the customer with the most accurate representation of colors on the KIA line up.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

Responsibilities:

  • Quantitative measurement and color harmony evaluation for interior and exterior color components to ensure consistent emotional quality.
  • Responsible for evaluating, nurturing, and approving colors, grain, gloss, etc. based on color specifications and masters of relevant departments.
  • Conduct overall harmony inspection and evaluation up to the quality control and mass production stage by cooperating with relevant departments.
  • Collaborating with quality control department in each plant to improve color and gloss and quality problem solving for production vehicles (with plant quality control, vendors and R&D Center in Korea)
  • Manage concept car models, check the design quality and follow up on the model building-all aspects of CMF.
  • Follow up all re-work vehicles in need of color guidance for interior and exterior in preparation for events, shows and press.
  • Support Kia website visualization team – assist in color tuning of interior and exterior CMF to accurately represent on the web.
  • Assist in production programs: material research and development. Work with HATCI materials engineering group to develop new CMF applications.
  • Travel internationally and domestically 50-70%

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Bachelor’s degree: industrial design (automotive/Product) or Interior Design or Fashion Design, Design related field.
  • 8+  years of CQM/relevant work experience.
  • CMF design experience.
  • Automotive Design Field experience.
  • CQM understanding
  • Understanding of car development process and mass production.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English and Korean.
  • Excellent communicator, team player, resourceful, organized, excellent time management.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Proficient in adobe programs, Microsoft office, Autodesk.
  • Able to attend 2-3 months training at the R&D Center in Korea.
  • Frequent business travel required: International and Domestic.
  • Ability to work safely and follow established procedures and policies.
  • R&D Center in Korea will be the main control tower for CQM related work.
  • All other work outside of R&D Center Korea assigned will be collaborative as part of the KDCA CMF Team.
