New Model Engineer II

Hyundai's North America Quality Center (NAQC) is looking for an Engineer II for the New Model Team. 

 

NAQC is the quality arm for Hyundai Motor Group (HMG)'s North American vehicle models. NAQC seeks to further Hyundai's goal of becoming the leading automotive manufacturer in North America by delivering uncompromising quality and exceeding consumer expectations. 

What You Will Do:

  • Test and evaluate CH (chassis)/PT (powertrain)/EL (electrical) concerns for new vehicle models and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Investigate/support testing and evaluation of CH/PT/EL quality issues on Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia vehicles, responding to requests from HMG, sales affiliates, vehicle assembly plants, and sudden increases in warranty claims
  • Conduct field or on-site investigations to collect subjective and objective data during driving to identify concerns and perform root cause analysis
  • Mentor junior engineers on best practices and facilitate learning on the job
  • Plan, lead, and provide support in collaboration with other groups/affiliates of test plans for the various quality tests done for new models, including Ride and Handling, NVH, Flat Spot Testing, and Hot and Cold weather tests
  • Manage schedules and advise outsourced companies to ensure all deliverables are met as per contract
  • Provide analysis and research results for 'lessons learned' on current and future models
  • Benchmark competitive vehicles to research differences and improve HMG vehicle systems
  • Research, procure, and maintain new technology, tools, and methods for data acquisition or analysis
  • Conduct vehicle audits for Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia models during developmental and post-launch stages
  • Create and present technical and weekly reports (as assigned)
  • Perform additional projects (as assigned)
  • Travel up to 40% of the time, both domestically and internationally

What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
    • 3-7 years of automotive experience, preferably in CH/PT/EL
    • Knowledge of CH/PT/EL Fundamentals, including NVH, Steering, Ride and Handling, Brakes, EV Systems, ADAS, Infotainment, etc.
    • Experience with vehicle sensors (e.g., LiDAR, radar, etc.), motor-driven steering systems, collision avoidance systems, adaptive control, lane departure, tire monitor systems, etc.
    • Experience with shop equipment (e.g., tire balancer/charger, lift, etc.) and knowledge of other CH/PT/EL engineering test equipment
    • Root cause analysis skills
    • Experience conducting field and on-site investigations
    • Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
    • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record

 

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • QA/QC/QI experience
    • Project management experience
