Compensation, Payroll, & Benefits Specialist
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking a Compensation, Payroll & Benefits Specialist who will be responsible for and support our compensation strategy, payroll, and benefit functions across the various locations, such as Michigan, California, Georgia, Alabama, Massachusetts.
You will help us maintain a competitive edge in the industry by analyzing our current total compensation packages and working with the HR team to enhance and optimize our compensation strategy. Additionally, you will support payroll processing and administration, maintain accurate benefit records in ADP and the benefits platform, reconcile payroll deductions, and assist with employee inquiries and benefits administration. Ultimately, you’ll ensure employees are compensated correctly and on time, in a way that is equitable and competitive.
To ensure success, the Compensation, Payroll & Benefits Specialist should possess great problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a diverse environment with employees at all levels within the organization.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of pay practices and compliance requirements, and the ability to develop and improve processes that ensure accuracy, equity, and employee satisfaction. This individual will work collaboratively with HR, Accounting/Finance, and Legal teams to maintain compliance, optimize systems, and deliver a seamless employee experience.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
This position will be reporting to the Sr Professional – Compensation & Benefits Specialist.
Compensation (40%)
- Assess and enhance HATCI’s compensation framework by analyzing internal and external market data to ensure pay equity, competitiveness, and internal alignment.
- Perform market analysis and pay benchmarking to support data-driven compensation decisions and salary structure enhancements.
- Support the design, implementation, and administration of compensation programs—including salary structures, merit increases, promotions, and incentive plans.
- Collaborate with HR business partners in developing new hire compensation recommendations for HR leadership review.
- Prepare analytics and reports on compensation and reward programs, and/or recommend process and policy improvements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline compensation processes and enhance program efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with FLSA, ERISA, and other applicable wage and hour regulations.
Payroll (30%)
- Support the implementation of ADP payroll system, assisting with configuration, testing, and user adoption.
- Support and collaborate with the Payroll Administrator and Accounting/Finance team to process payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees across multiple locations (MI, CA, AL, GA, MA) using ADP payroll system.
- Assist in processing payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, salary/rate changes, bonuses, deductions and more.
- Support off-cycle payments, garnishments, special adjustments, and payroll audits.
- Collaborate with the Payroll Administrator in streamlining payroll processes, ADP system integration, and enhancing operational efficiency.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in ADP, providing timely responses to employee inquiries and ensuring accurate payments.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as tax and reporting requirements.
Benefits Administration (20%)
- Maintain accurate employee benefit records in ADP and the benefits platform, ensuring all enrollments, changes, terminations, and leave-related adjustments are correctly captured.
- Reconcile payroll deductions for all benefit elections to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with the Payroll Administrator, Benefits Administrator, and applicable carriers to resolve discrepancies between benefit elections and payroll deductions.
- Support and collaborate as needed with the Benefits Administrator in administering benefits programs, including enrollment changes, deductions, terminations, vendor billing reconciliation, leave management, and worker’s compensation administration.
- Support the implementation of new carrier changes, benefits programs and employee events.
Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Assist with various HR projects and initiatives as assigned by the Senior Compensation and Benefits Specialist.
- Provide general administrative support to the Human Resources department and employees as needed.
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT
- Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems (Success Factors, ADP, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5–7 years of experience in compensation, payroll, or benefits administration (multi-state experience preferred).

- Knowledge of FLSA, ERISA, and IRS payroll regulations.
- Experience supporting both exempt and non-exempt populations.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply benchmarking data to inform compensation strategy.
- Exposure to international or global mobility programs a plus.
