Group Manager – Paint, Coating, Adhesive
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking a Group Manager within the Material Development Department at our Superior Township, MI facility.
The Group Manager is responsible for directing and guiding a team of 4 engineers and 3 technicians, responsible for engineering support, validation, and technology development relating to paints, sealers, adhesives, and NVH materials for Hyundai Motor Group vehicles produced in North and South America.
In addition, the Group Manager is responsible for oversight and management of the Weathering Station located at the Hyundai California Proving Grounds in Mojave, CA.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Support production vehicle launches through successful validation of new coating materials, and successful coordination of testing and sample requirements between production facilities, suppliers, design studios, and Namyang engineering teams.
- Provide working level technical direction to production and corporate Quality teams, relating to quality and field performance issues.
- Propose and manage group’s new technology development focused on cost reduction, quality/performance improvement, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with other HMG organizations and departments such as Manufacturing, Design Studios, Quality teams, Namyang R&D Center, Purchasing, and Engineering Design. Provide continuous communication with Namyang Material Engineering Center teams regarding project and test development.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Travel up to 30% of time domestically and internationally.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- MS or PhD in a relevant physical science – Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymers, Coatings, Adhesives
- 10 years of engineering experience outside of academia, including 5 years of experience at OEM or material supplier in automotive materials relating to paints, coatings, or adhesives
- Working knowledge of material analysis and test methodologies in at least 2 of 3 principal areas: (paints, coatings, adhesives)
- Experience working for an international organization
- Expert oral and written communication skills
- Expert skills in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Proficient time management, organizational, and project management skills
- Proficient self-management skills
