WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Manager, Data Scientist Safety Office is a hands-on, owner-led role responsible for driving analytics from problem definition through solution implementation in close partnership with the Safety Office. This individual is a self-starter who independently explores complex data, identifies insights, recommends data-driven solutions, and actively supports implementation—there is no handoff model. Working within a distributed data processing environment, this role offers the opportunity to shape analytics approaches, influence data science processes, and grow ownership across the analytics lifecycle as the function continues to evolve.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Engage with Hyundai/Genesis Safety Office to fully understand their analytics needs.
- Act as subject matter expert regarding safety office machine learning models. Manage analytics projects related to safety office and develop ontologies.
- Manage and give directions to external vendor data science resources.
- Pre-process, clean, and analyze large data sets.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis.
- Create new input features and build end-to-end data pipelines for machine learning models.
- Leverage machine learning and natural language processing techniques to mine through unstructured data to uncover insights, topic detection, keyword extraction, and sentiment analysis.
- Build and optimize models using machine learning techniques.
- Deploy, automate, and maintain models on production systems.
- Lead and participate in meetings, includes schedule with agenda, identify appropriate required attendees, capture notes, and publish action items, and follow-up on next steps.
- Present data and analysis in a clear and concise manner allowing the audience to quickly understand the results and recommendations and make data driven decisions.
- Collaborates with various internal teams and subject matter experts to understand data.
- Interface with internal clients to: Identify business issues/opportunities, gather requirements, define analytics project, objectives, scope, schedule, and deliverable, provide updates and report results
- Support internal teams by identifying implications and making recommendations, escalate issues as needed. Respond to emails, calls, in-person inquiries and requests, interface with IT, suppliers, and/or management, escalate issues as needed.
- Other assignments and administrative tasks as needed.
- This position is expected to provide critical thinking and propose ideas or solutions that are in the best interest of the HMNA/HMA/GMA organization.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree.
- Master’s degree a plus.
- Six or more years of professional experience with at least three years shipping Python & SQL to production required.
- Experience with PySpark and/or Hadoop a plus.
- Ability to translate complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders
WHAT HYUNDAI CAN OFFER YOU
- Compensation Range: $107,950 - $130,000 annual base salary
- Monthly Hyundai/Genesis vehicle lease allowance (including insurance and maintenance)
- Holiday Pay - the company shuts down with pay between Christmas and New Years.
