Specialist - Human Resources (Workplace Accommodations)

Position Summary:
Oversee and provide specialized assistance with workplace accommodation processes in an automotive manufacturing environment. Coordinate best practice reasonable accommodations in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, including the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), and applicable company policies. Serve as subject matter expert on accommodations processes and laws. Provide support to the Medical Leave team as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for day-to-day coordination of workplace accommodations for Team Members, including intake, documentation review, engaging in the interactive process, and determining and communication accommodation decisions.
- Track all accommodation cases, detailing the steps in the interactive process for accommodation requests and outcomes.
- Maintain accurate, confidential information/documentation to track and ensure timely case management.
- Work with and assist Medical Leave Specialists with coordination of leave & disability management coverage as needed.
- Draft professional written communications related to the accommodation process, including requests for documentation, approval or denial letters, and followup correspondence.
- Communicate with Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) personnel, management, and the medical clinic to coordinate accommodation process and determine eligibility for work assignments.
- Provide guidance and training to Team Members and managers on ADA, PWFA, accommodation requirements, and related policies.
- Participate in case review meetings and attend Medical Review Committee meetings.
- Administer, coordinate, and comply with all Business Management System (BMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
- Meet all other requirements as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent desired
Related Experience:
- 3 – 10 years of job-related experience preferred
- 3+ years experience in ADA, accommodations, and disability management
- 3+ years experience with casemanagement and HRIS systems
Training / Certification:
- CPDM or related certification preferred
- SHRM or related certification preferred
Skills / Knowledge:
- MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
- Strong knowledge of accommodation law and disability programs
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Additional Information:
Position may require occasional travel (domestic or foreign). Flexibility in working hours to include weekends, holidays, and off shift. Position may require on-call duty or overtime due to overall responsibility.
