WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Internal subject matter expert responsible for advising senior finance and operations management with respect to US tax and customs matters. Responsible for US federal and state tax strategy, US customs strategy and all tax and customs compliance for HMA. Responsible for quarterly and annual accounting for income taxes under IFRS and GAAP for the HMA consolidated group.
  • Provide expert and pragmatic US domestic and international tax and customs technical advice to members of Hyundai US group and HMC as requested. Accurately report and manage local taxes for HMA, including sales, excise, property and local business taxes. 

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Direct section managers and staff in the timely preparation, consolidation, and filing of federal, state, local, property tax, and information returns.
  • Coordinate effective communication with U.S. consolidated group affiliates, including HMMA, HCA, HATCI, Translead, and other Hyundai U.S. entities, to support tax planning and information sharing.
  • Manage relationships with external tax and customs advisors and respond to information requests and expert inquiries from senior HMA Finance management and HMC.
  • Oversee quarterly estimated tax payments and timely deposits of federal, state, and local taxes, customs duties, and fees for the U.S. consolidated group, ensuring compliance with tax sharing agreements.
  • Direct transfer pricing cost allocations and shared-cost allocations in compliance with U.S. regulations and group requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with intercompany pricing policies, APAs, CFC, FBAR, and U.S. withholding obligations; coordinate and respond to IRS and APA data requests.
  • Conduct ongoing tax research, monitor legislative and regulatory changes, and advise management on risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and GAAP tax provision requirements and manage IRS, state, local, and customs examinations.
  • Oversee customs administration, including import clearance, documentation, duty reduction programs, customs valuation, and maintenance of continuous customs bonds.
  • Support Human Resources on tax implications of employee benefit programs.
  • Manage overall department administration, including budgeting, staffing, performance management, employee relations, approvals, and staff development aligned with organizational goals.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Master’s of Taxation / LLM a plus
  • At least fifteen years of progressively responsible tax experience in consulting and industry assignments with significant experience with US international tax statutes.
  • Thorough knowledge of US domestic and international tax and working knowledge of and experience with US customs regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • CPA certification is required.
  • At least ten years management experience or project leadership in corporate taxation and accounting for income taxes.
  • Experience with a multinational firm is desired.
  • At least five years of supervisory experience desired.
  • Proficient in presentation and spreadsheet programs.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Operates at a high-level of integrity and demonstrates a commitment to excellence in performing duties.

WHAT HYUNDAI CAN OFFER YOU

  • Compensation Range: $215,000 - $265,000 annual base salary
  • Monthly Hyundai/Genesis vehicle lease allowance (including insurance and maintenance)
  • Holiday Pay - the company shuts down with pay between Christmas and New Years.
