WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • This individual has the lead role in developing and improving all proprietary Hyundai & Genesis vehicle diagnostic systems including, but is not limited to, the Global Diagnostic System (GDS) system, other Dealership diagnostic equipment and special service tools
  • The primary goal of the Hyundai diagnostic program is to improve the Hyundai & Genesis Dealership technician’s efficiency and ability to diagnose the customer vehicle and fix it correctly the first time.
  • This individual is expected to spearhead research of upcoming advanced diagnostic technologies and determine if and how they should be integrated into the overall Hyundai & Genesis diagnostic program.
  • Work closely with Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) and Global Information Technology America (GITA) to standardize the GDS as much as possible and align HMA’s diagnostic applications with the global standard, limiting market-unique variation and local development wherever practical.
  • Work with Hyundai Auto Canada (HAC) to align diagnostic tools, applications and supporting processes across North America, with the goal of a common North America GDS version rather than separate HMA and HAC versions.
  • Manage the licensing and profitability of Hyundai and Genesis diagnostic and repair information to companies such as Mitchell, others, etc.
  • In addition, this person assumes project management of new initiatives related to diagnostic tools, diagnostic special service tools and other related programs to integrate them into Hyundai & Genesis overall diagnostic strategy and company priorities.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Assess development and launch activities for all advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Represent HMA with HMC, GIT and GITA on global product strategy and roadmap for diagnostic products, participating from the requirements stage so that HMA field needs are reflected in the global standard rather than addressed through local development.
  • Coordinate with HAC counterparts to align North American requirements, tool supply, application versions and support policies before they are submitted to HMC and GITA.
  • Manage GDS release quality with GITA and GIT through a formal issue tracking process, pre-release verification, automated testing and rollback readiness.
  • Manage migration of legacy tool functions into GDS and the eReport platform and support the sunset of superseded applications.
  • Support Right to Repair compliance for diagnostics, including the SAE J2534 application, aftermarket GDS access, secure gateway and security certificate handling, working with Legal and Cybersecurity.
  • Benchmark aftermarket and competitor OE scan tools to identify gaps and improvement opportunities for GDS.
  • Evaluate AI-assisted diagnostic capability delivered through GDS and determine how it should be integrated into the Hyundai & Genesis diagnostic program.
  • Investigate failed event updates, identify and document root cause, and resolve issues through completion or coordinate an appropriate handoff for further investigation as needed.
  • Identify, document, and report functional or compatibility issues with the GDS system.
  • Ensure the GDS countermeasures are tested and delivered on schedule.
  • GDS software update coordination & approval.
  • Assist the development, and oversee testing, validation and distribution of all diagnostic tools.
  • Oversee publication Technical Services Bulletins related to GDS, diagnostic equipment and special diagnostic service tools.
  • Launch and manage research of new diagnostic technologies and determine if and how they should be integrated into the Hyundai & Genesis diagnostic program.
  • Participate in aftermarket industry events such as ETI Tool Tech to provide support for the aftermarket and promote the Hyundai and Genesis brand.
  • Responsible for providing, maintaining and analyzing the overall yearly budget related to diagnostic systems (i.e. G.I.T. and other diagnostic programs).
  • Final approval authority for campaign-related ECU update S/W.
  • Authority to approve or hold GDS software releases for HMA based on validation results and field risk.
  • Represents HMA in working-level requirement and prioritization discussions with HMC, GIT, GITA and HAC for diagnostic products.
  • Authority to operate pre-production and HMA Engineering fleet production vehicles to gain first-hand knowledge of: conditions, fix validation, and data requirements for GDS and other diagnostic SSTs.
  • Authority to request and spend from Purchase Orders related to GDS and other advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Authority to travel to Tool Trade Shows (ETI, etc.) and Dealer visits to test production model software.
