WHAT YOU WILL DO
You help oversee HMNA’s compliance program by conducting legal analysis and developing policies across a range of areas including antitrust, anti-corruption, forced labor, international sanctions, gifts and political contributions, trade, board governance, ERISA, and other regulatory matters. You also support the creation, implementation, and enforcement of the company’s privacy policies and programs. Your role includes reviewing and advising on legal issues related to U.S. privacy laws and data processing, particularly involving consumer personal information. Additionally, you provide legal counsel on cybersecurity matters affecting both vehicle systems and enterprise operations.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Provide legal counsel, policy development, training, and implementation support across a broad range of compliance areas, including antitrust, anti-corruption, forced labor, international sanctions, trade, charitable contributions, gifts and political activities, vehicle usage, Board governance, ERISA, and other regulatory matters.
- Collaborate with the Compliance Committee on risk assessments, remediation, training, and audits.
- Support the company’s privacy strategy and ensure alignment with applicable laws and industry standards.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., CIO, Cybersecurity, Digital Intelligence, Dealer Data, IT provider, affiliates) to maintain privacy practices that reflect legal and organizational requirements.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and assist with vendor management.
- Advise on compliance with the California Privacy Rights Act and similar state laws.
- Provide privacy guidance for emerging business models such as digital retailing, autonomy, and ride sharing.
- Manage legal aspects of privacy and cybersecurity incidents, lead incident response efforts, conduct tabletop simulations, and update response plans.
- Review and negotiate privacy, security, and compliance terms in contracts.
- Support internal and external audit-related compliance controls.
- Stay current on federal and state privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance laws and industry trends.
- Monitor data usage across vehicle technologies, advertising, mobile, social media, and third-party relationships.
- Make decisions and resolve issues related to privacy, cybersecurity, and data breaches.
- Manage outside counsel and consultants on specialized compliance and cybersecurity projects.
- Maintain relevant certifications in compliance, privacy, and cybersecurity.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Juris Doctorate required.
- Member California State Bar Association.
- Certifications earned or will acquire within one year of hire from International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP).
- Eight or more years of relevant legal experience, including law firm and/or in-house position(s).
- Strong privacy and compliance experience.
- Automotive industry experience preferred.
- Technical knowledge preferred.
- Strong analytical skills, drafting and negotiation skills, oral and written communication skills.
- Strong legal operational skills.
- Excellent people skills.
- Team-oriented and willing to work collectively.
- Strong work ethic essential.
- Self-motivated and innovative.
- Knowledge of commercial and regulatory compliance risks in the automotive industry.
WHAT HYUNDAI CAN OFFER YOU
- Compensation Range: $137,025 - $203,000 annual base salary
- Monthly Hyundai/Genesis vehicle lease allowance (including insurance and maintenance)
- Holiday Pay - the company shuts down with pay between Christmas and New Years.
