WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead timely, accurate, and thorough vehicle safety investigations by directing case triage, root‑cause analysis, data validation, supplier engagement, and TRC readiness — ensuring issues are escalated with precision and urgency to support regulatory requirements and customer safety.
- Drive cross‑functional coordination with NHTSA, HMC/KASO, STIL, HATCI, manufacturing, aftersales, legal, and global safety teams to ensure thorough understanding of technical background across global regions, supporting data and rationale associated with investigations is clear, and applying NASO processes and KPIs consistently throughout investigations.
- Strengthen investigation capability and operational performance by refining SOPs (TRC, EI, SGO, NASDA), improving engineer‑level investigation quality, enabling training and onboarding excellence, and ensuring NASO meets all regulatory expectations while proactively mitigating risk to Hyundai and its customers.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Lead timely, accurate, and comprehensive investigations into potential vehicle safety and quality issues by reviewing field data, warranty trends, FSE reports, TechLine cases, NHTSA VOQs, customer complaints, engineering data, HATCI studies, survey inputs, and big data sources.
- Direct root cause analysis, supporting data and documentation, supplier engagement, and technical assessment to determine safety impact, defect causation, and appropriate field action recommendations (recall, service campaign, monitoring, remedy validation).
- Prioritize, assign, and track incoming issues requiring investigation, ensuring effective workload balance, rigorous technical review, and timely follow up.
- Coordinate with HMC/KASO, HMMA, STIL, HATCI, NAQC, Aftersales, Warranty, Service Ops, Ports, Legal, and Customer Care to validate technical findings, align recommendations, and drive corrective actions.
- Lead engagement with suppliers to confirm test plans, part conditions, quality deviations, and root cause hypotheses; ensure proper evaluation of supplier analysis and remedy effectiveness.
- Support port, plant, and field investigations by coordinating with warranty administration, Port QA, Legal, and technical partners to confirm field conditions and potential countermeasures.
- Liaise directly with regulatory agencies (e.g., NHTSA) to ensure transparent, accurate, and timely communication of investigation status, technical findings, and field action decisions.
- Collaborate with HMA and HMC Legal on regulatory matters, product liability issues, data requests, and preparation of supporting documentation.
- Ensure investigation work supports TRC and NASDA readiness, SGO/EI process compliance, and internal SOP/ KPI expectations across the safety lifecycle.
- Review and approve Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), remedy validations, engineering analyses, and case summaries prepared by technical teams.
- Support evaluation and validation of field remedies, countermeasures, and part modifications, including testing, teardown review, and comparison of pre and post countermeasure performance.
- Provide technical support for new model evaluations, port audits, ride & drives, accessory reviews, and emerging issue assessments.
- Support the Parts Department with technical guidance on remanufactured engines, transmissions, electronic systems, and related components.
- Drive continuous improvement of NASO investigation SOPs (TRC, NASDA, EI, RRP, SGO), KPIs, and work instructions to enhance investigation efficiency, accuracy, and organizational maturity.
- Ensure consistent use and improvement of investigation systems and tools (CMT, SODAS, VIMS), including data integrity, case tracking, and process compliance.
- Monitor external benchmarks (IIHS, NCAP, J.D. Power, Consumer Reports, social media, technical forums) to proactively identify emerging patterns, risk indicators, and potential safety concerns.
- Coach, mentor, and develop VSI engineers to strengthen technical depth, investigation quality, documentation standards, and decision making skills.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Must have bachelor’s degree, preference in engineering, mathematics, science and automotive.
- Master’s degree a plus.
- Ten or more years of relevant experience of which at least eight years of directly related experience in OEM service.
- Three or more years of experience in a safety related position.
- Three or more years of technical supervisory experience required.
- Thorough automotive technical knowledge required.
- Thorough knowledge of FMVSS/CMVSS regulatory structure and manufacturer requirements
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical/problem solving ability.Strong data management/general and statistical analysis/reporting capabilities.
- Strong organizational skills yet flexible to accomplish objectives that are often subject to change.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and direction.
- Certification preferred includes ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, ASE Master Certification, SAE, Six Sigma (Green Belt of higher), ASA PSTAT, PMP, IPC, and/or other relevant professional certification

- Compensation Range: $137,025.00 - $203,000.00 annual base salary

- Physical requirements: Normal office duties.
- Occasional lifting and/or vehicle mechanical assembly/disassembly.
- Work requires vehicle evaluations, travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections. This requires possession of a valid state driver’s license and good driving record.
- Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
- Must be willing to travel up to 25% (sometimes with short notice).
